Olas
Olas are the applause. You earn them when other people rate what you bring to Ola Mayor — never by paying, and never by clicking a lot.
How you earn them
Twice for the same thing: once when it is accepted, and then every time someone upvotes it.

Downvotes never take Olas away. They decide what gets seen, not what you are worth.
What does not earn them
Voting and commenting on their own earn nothing — otherwise the fastest way up would be noise. Upvoting your own things does nothing at all, and a brand-new account has to wait before its votes carry weight anywhere.
There are two more limits you will probably never meet: the same small group of accounts upvoting each other stops counting, and there is a ceiling on how much one account can gain in a day. Both exist so a ring of accounts cannot lift one of its own.

Every level unlocks a little more of the site. Nothing expires and nothing is taken back.

The short version
Olas are status, never money. There is nothing to buy, nothing to cash out, and no way to trade them. They say one thing: other people found what you added worth watching.
